Child sponsorship is an effective and fulfilling way to help give a child from a poor community the chance of a brighter future.
In order to thrive, children need to grow up in an environment that provides the essentials that they need today and hope and opportunities for tomorrow. Children need to enjoy good health and be cared for and protected.
They need to be educated for life, be welcomed to participate in decisions that affect their lives and be free to choose to love God and their neighbours.
World Vision works with community groups and the children themselves to plan and carry out changes so that more children will gain opportunities to fulfill their potential in life. Sponsors witness these changes through progress reports from the community and personal communication with their sponsored children. Sponsors can encourage the child they sponsor by writing or even visiting their sponsored child and their family. By combining the donations given by many sponsors in a project area, World Vision works with a large community for an extended period — typically 15 years.
This helps to achieve development objectives chosen by the community that will benefit sponsored children, their peers, all their families and the whole population. Typically these relate to quality education, health, nutrition and clean water. Child sponsorship is, at its heart, a relationship-building tool. This response distributed masks, educated people on infection prevention, trained and delivered supplies to health workers, and enhanced child protection efforts. World Vision Canada reports using external fundraisers in its annual filing with the Charities Directorate. Changes and edits may be forthcoming. Ci categorizes these payments as grants, but World Vision Canada comments that this money should be categorized as "cash funding - international".

In this phase, community members assess their needs and priorities and develop a multi-year plan of action.
Together they decide how to use a large portion of the project budget. World Vision encourages local leaders to involve women and young people in this process, as the many positive effects carry over into other aspects of community life. Design solutions. Now that the community has decided on their destination, they begin designing practical steps that will take them there. These can include agricultural, health-related, educational, and economic activities.
World Vision provides oversight and help as needed, but encourages community members to work together to come up with their own solutions. Take ownership. In this final step, the community takes full ownership of their future—establishing long-term social structures such as water committees, food marketing co-ops, parent-teacher associations, and community banks.
