In the first scene of Julius Caesar the commoners who once worshipped Pompey have turned their allegiance to Caesar. Cassius knows how naive and how moral Brutus is and he uses this information into making him help kill Caesar. Being naive and over trusting causes his first mistake and helps with his downfall when he refuses to listen to Cassius, who wants Antony to be also killed because he knows that he will seek revenge for Caesar.
In Julius Caesar Brutus displays the traits of a tragic hero through out this play but being a good person but makes an error in judgment, and when this error occurred it causes his own downfall. First off is that Brutus makes an error in judgment by joining the conspiracy to over throw Caesar.

Another example is when speaking to his fellow conspirators, Brutus feels an oath is unnecessary. This makes it seem as though Antony is with the conspirators. So Brutus is saying he would die for honour and that is what he did because it was considered honourable to kill yourself if you thought you were going to be killed or captured and taken to Rome to be humiliated.
He is a smart speculator and he proves to be successful when he manages to persuade Brutus but he lacks honesty. This is shown in the play when he forges some letters pretending that they are from the plebeians, telling Brutus that he should kill Caesar and they, the people of Rome will support him.
